69 year old with abdominal pain and bowels not open for two days.
Abdominal radiograph of an adult patient. There is evidence of dilated loops of small and large bowel. Calibre change in the right side of the abdomen. No free air is appreciated. No image features of ischaemia. There is evidence of a left groin hernia which contains bowel loops adjacent to a hip prosthesis. Appearance on imaging is suggestive of mechanical bowel obstruction. This is a surgical emergency. I would urgently conveyed the findings to the referring clinical team.
