59 year old with shortness of breath and chest pain.
Chest radiograph of an adult patient. There is a double density located adjacent to the left heart border. The descending thoracic aorta cannot be seen separate from this. This does not obscure the heart border or the hilar silhouette. This therefore likely represents a posterior mediastinal lesion. No bony abnormalities appreciated. The lungs appear clear. This is most likely to represent an aneurysm of the thoracic aorta. This is a emergency I would suggest further assessment with a CT scan urgently if the patient is stable.
